Banquet of the Word is a Bible study guide based on the Sunday lectionary. Written for both individuals and groups, it will stimulate Catholics to take advantage of the lectionary framework as the basis for Bible study.  Studying the liturgical Scripture texts is the best preparation for the celebration: it forms a bridge between litrugy and life.  Banquet of the Word is an ideal framework fo acquiring a good working familiarity with the whole Bible over a three-year period.

Thomas Welbers received a Master of Arts in Religion rom St. John's College in Camarillo, California, in 1968.  That same year he was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  Rev. Welbers has held numerous full-time diocesan assignments in Southern California, and well as positions in liturgical education and orientation.  He has published widely in a variety of publications, including The Tidings, the official Catholic Newspaper of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Service, Modern Liturgy, The Priest, and the St. Anthony Messenger.  Rev. Welbers' work has been previously published by Resource Publications, Inc. in The Holy Week Book, a collection ofideas or Holy Week celebrations by many Modern Liturgy contributors.  Banquet of the Word is Rev. Welbers' first book.

"As a liturgist, I am convinced that Cathiolic Bible study should fous on the lectionary.  This book was born out of notes I wrote for the people of the parishes where I was assigned in the late 1970's and early 1980's.  I aimed at someting that would be useul for both individual and group Bible study, as well as a text that could be read casually but would also provide guidance for more serious study."
